Be a Natural!

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in Heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

What is light? It is the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. In our officiating career and in life in general, we need to be the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. Why? We live in a very dark and blind world. There is darkness in our families, communities, schools, workplaces, and certainly in the sports environment we are a part of. The light of Christ needs to shine brightly and consistently.

Jesus calls for us to ‘let’ our light shine. Let means allow or not prevent or forbid. Be authentic, genuine, unconforming and honest - be yourself. Put God’s glory and praise first but don’t hide what He’s done for you or through you. Your light shines brightest when you’re passionate and confident in what you’re doing - profession, hobby, or fun. This dark world needs to experience God’s light through us. Let your light shine by showing love, compassion, and care for all. They will feel you. They will see Jesus.

Questions to Ponder:

In what ways am I dimming or hiding my light?

How can I ‘naturally’ let my light shine?
