“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs IS the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3
“For this is what the high and exalted One says – he who lives forever, whose name is holy: I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
Isaiah 57:15
The lights are bright. The crowd is loud. It’s the biggest game of the season, and the officials are doing everything they can to call a perfect game. Every eye is watching, every call scrutinized. Pressure builds—but no matter how focused we are, we are not perfect. We can’t see it all. We can’t do it all. That’s us. Even when we’re giving our best, we fall short. And yet Jesus says that’s right where blessing begins: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Present tense. Right now. Experiencing God’s grace in every circumstance - heaven on earth!
The God of glory draws near to the heart posture of humility. He moves into the hearts of those who know they are spiritually bankrupted – a beggar! You don’t need to call a perfect game. You need to call on the perfect Savior. Here is a prayer for consideration - Lord, I’m not enough—but You are. Thank You for being high and holy, yet close to the humble. Help me live in daily dependence on You. Amen.
Questions to Ponder:
How is your disposition before a holy God – realizing your daily dependance on Him or just a casual acquaintance?
How can we experience heaven on earth right now?
