Know The Rules -Enforce The Rules

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)

Rules knowledge is necessary for all officials, in all sports, at all levels. We must know them to properly enforce them. We must know them to teach and educate others on them: new officials, partners, coaches, fans, media. Rule books can be hundreds of pages long with dozens of sections and subsections.

Thanks be to the Lord Jesus Christ that He has One rule with three sections. Love: God, self, others. If we know and apply this one rule, we’ve fulfilled the entire rule book. He wants us to truly, genuinely, and wholeheartedly love Him, ourselves, and others. I’m confident that every official, in every sport, at every level can remember and then apply this rule.

How can I genuinely and wholeheartedly love God, myself, and others better?
