“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3: 5-6
The high school football season ended in mid-December. Then came the holidays,
bowl games, college championship, NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. And
football was gone.
Did you take the opportunity to recharge? How about mentally or physically?
What about spiritually?
At some point, you flip the switch and think about football again. Is it when you
hear about the upcoming season’s new rule changes? Perhaps you get an email
from your association about the meetings and training opportunities? Or is it
when the playoff camp schedule is posted and you walk in to prepare for the
season?
Whenever it is, you started your physical training and mental preparation. You
put in the roadwork, the gym time, and the rule/mechanics reviews. You worked a
Spring game and attended a summer camp. You take the clinic, the test and attend
Association meetings. You share camaraderie with your fellow officials.
This week, as the season opens, take a moment to reflect on the physical and
mental preparation you have undertaken. Then take a moment to thank the Lord
for this opportunity – to serve the schools, the players, the communities and
Him.
It is then that you should know you are ready.
So when the Referee raises his arm and blows his whistle to signal the kicker to
begin his movement toward the football to begin the season, do one more thing:
Let Go and Let God
Do this, and you will know you are ready.
Questions to Ponder:
Have you done everything to prepare and are you now ready to Let Go and Let God?
