“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
Peace is defined as freedom from disturbance; tranquility. This seems like the total opposite of what sports officials encounter before, during and after games or matches. There is much disturbance and minimal tranquility in most officiating situations. There are fast, stressful, critical decisions being made all the time. Peace may seem hard to find.
Jesus reminds us that His peace is not the world’s peace. The world may find peace in money, success, fame, and accolades. What if we don’t make the money we desire? What if we don’t work the top game? What if we don’t make it to the level we want to reach? What if we make a viral mistake? Do as Jesus said, do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Real peace is Jesus Christ regardless of the circumstances around us. Receive His peace. Live in His peace.
Questions to Ponder:
What affects my peace the most?
How do I recapture Jesus’ real peace?
