The Power To Survive!

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My Righteous Right Hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

I remember approximately 50 years ago, the first officiating experience I had as a softball umpire.  I was nervous, afraid, and not very confident, but my fellow officials pulled me through and encouraged me as the years went on.  Now, here it is 50 years later, still officiating multiple sports, but my life has changed after being diagnosed with breast cancer, thyroid cancer, and facial melanoma.

I never imagined how officiating and cancer could share the same common experiences.  Even though sometimes we feel like we can be in a dark valley, we also find a deeper connection to God. We try our best to let go of anxiety and totally trust God to give us peace.  We pray more earnestly that God will meet us at our time of need.  We discover we are not alone and that we are stronger and more capable than we have ever imagined, and we have the confidence to face our next game, our next difficult medical journey.  We focus on life’s simple moments and are humbled to be involved in our next game and so appreciative to live another day.  Our connections with our fellow officials and friends draw us so much closer together.

Support, encouragement, and compassion mean more than ever before.  The cancer journey, as well as a life of officiating, has opened many new doors and has given me ways to minister to help others navigate through their own journeys.  May we always be a Light to others and give hope to those who feel alone.  God is always with us and He is truly Faithful!

Questions to Ponder:

How can our life be a light to others?

How can we reach out to someone in need?
