Related Scripture:
“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
Ephesians 4:15-16
It was a great thing when basketball officiating went from a crew-of-two to a crew-of-three. The coverage was so much better when officials moved together properly and watched their primary coverage areas. Coverage suffered if one official did not follow the mechanics properly. The idea of working together while utilizing our distinct spiritual gifts is an important theme in the New Testament. The Apostle Paul’s message to the Ephesian believers can be applied to our lives.
As the head of the church, Jesus wrote the “mechanics manual” for His followers with His teachings and the way He lived. Even though we may be different physically and culturally from other believers, we can carry out the work of the church effectively when we work together. When we purposely seek to be more like Christ each day and when we purposely look for opportunities to “do our special work” alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ, the Body of Christ is most effective.
Questions to Ponder:
What steps are you taking to be “more like Christ”?
What are some ways you can work together with other believers more effectively?
