STOP AND CONSIDER GOD

“Pay attention to this, Job. Stop and consider the wonders of God!”
Job 37:14
Do you remember the first time you officiated on a field or court? I began officiating football in Southern California, and new officials worked a scrimmage with an experienced official working beside them. The first play was a run up the middle. At the end of the play, my “shadow” asked me what I had seen. I believe I said, “A bunch of people running around.” Eventually the game “slowed down” for me, and I was able to see what I needed to see.
Whatever the sport you officiate, the game doesn’t get slower as you gain more experience – in fact, it gets faster each year. We can understand what is going on better. That is true in all aspects of life – even our spiritual lives. As we grow spiritually in a fast-paced world, the words of Elihu found in Job 37:14 might be helpful. Job had been seriously tested by Satan with the loss of family and wealth, and he was beset with a physical affliction. Elihu was misguided in some things he told Job, but these words are meaningful. The Hebrew word for “consider” means to analyze thoroughly. God’s wonders are recorded for us in Scripture, and they are worthy of a thorough analysis. In the midst of our busy lives, we need to “stop and consider” what God has done and continues to do for us.
Questions to Ponder:
Do you take time to get out of the “fast lane of life” and study God’s word to consider His wonders?
Do you take time to thank God for the wonders He does in your life and in the lives of people around you?
