A Strong Desire

“Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that you may grow up in your salvation.”   1 Peter 2:2

This past December, my wife and I welcomed our first child. It was a moment I will never forget, and I am thankful to be a dad every day. When it came time to feed him, if we did not have a bottle ready, he would cry and scream, letting us know it was time for him to eat. He was hungry and wasn’t afraid to let us know his desire for milk.

As officials, we all have certain desires we want to achieve in our career. Maybe we want to work a state championship or advance to college or professional level. Maybe we want to hold a title or become a coordinator for our state or conference. No matter what the goal is, we all have a desire to reach it.

James tells us to desire God’s word and compares it to an infant desiring milk. As Christians, there should be a strong desire within us to grow in our relationship with God. God’s Word is necessary for growth just as a rulebook and case plays are necessary for officials. When we fail to desire and receive God’s Word, it can cause us to stumble and fail to grow in our walk with Him. When we fail to study and prepare for officiating, we will stumble and fail in our games. We should never get tired of reading God’s Word and the countless truths found inside.

Do I have a desire to read, study, and apply God’s Word in my life?

Are there things in my life that are keeping me from desiring God’s Word?
